McKinnon Secondary College East Campus (Year 8-9)
The East Campus of McKinnon Secondary College is a modern, state-of-the-art, engaging and challenging learning environment for our Year 8 and 9 students.
Our teachers have worked hard to review and revitalise our curriculum offerings at these year levels. The high level use of technology for learning, the embedding of critical thinking skills into all subjects and affording our students and staff flexible learning environments are just some of the areas that enhance the learning experience of our students.
Our Year 8 'Kummargee - Rise Up' program involves a greater study of indigenous issues and appreciation of this important culture. The program is unique to Year 8 and boasts a variety of challenges across the arts, academics and athletics. Students complete in groups and as a form throughout the year to earn points towards the overall prize.
Whilst at Year 9 the new core subject ‘Wisdom and Service’, based on our school motto, provides opportunities for our students to contribute positively to the school and wider community. The new subject ‘Mind, Body and Soul’ involves participation and the study of physical education, healthy relationships, nutrition and Positive Education.
All students participate in our 'Job Ready' program:

• First Aid Level CPR qualification
• Career education program
The East Campus helps us build continuous improvement and prepare students for a successful senior education and a happy and healthy life beyond school. At East Campus students have a strong emphasis on developing career goals and preparing for senior education while participating in the local community. There is a strong emphasis on STEAM-based project work (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) with a focus on inquiry, research, testing hypotheses, presentation skills, leadership and community service.
With a focus on the middle years, and strong pedagogy around collaboration, creative and critical thinking, and more hands-on learning, this site provides a great opportunity to transform education for this age group.
Facilities
East campus offers teaching and learning areas over 4-levels with dedicated sporting facilities on the ground level of the building. The spaces at East Campus improve the inclusion of all students, ensuring there are learning environments suitable for everyone.
